If you are looking for a versatile printer for your home office that should also cost as little as possible, then HP offers a suitable device with the HP OfficeJet 5255. The multifunction printer is not very suitable for real office tasks. The page prices are too high, despite HP’s Instant Ink exchange program, and the working speed is too low at the same time. For private use, the printer comes into question if you only occasionally print, scan and copy, but need a fax. Features such as the duplex printing unit, document feeder, and WiFi direct for printing and scanning from mobile devices deserve praise. In contrast, the paper input and output are kept quite narrow. As little as the follow-up costs speak for use in the office environment, the equipment tries that hard. The HP OfficeJet 5255 multifunction printer can print, scan, copy, and fax. For this purpose, a duplex unit is installed that automatically prints on the front and back of the paper. Up to 35 sheets can be fed through the document feeder. The display is touch-enabled and has a graphic structure, but only in grayscale – that looks pretty old-fashioned now. However, the screen reacts quickly to finger pressure. Its menu is structured. The paper management speaks against office use: only 100 sheets fit in the input tray. Only a meagre 25 sheets are provided for filing. Because of the ADF attachment, the scanner cover is quite heavy. the part of the housing in which the scanner glass is located also lifts. Below are the cartridges. As soon as the cover starts moving, the printer carriage moves to the center for a cartridge replacement, which then does not take place at all. A little more robustness would be more suitable for the office. The inkjet system is nothing for high-volume printers, however, because a set of new cartridges is at least as expensive as the device itself and the HP OfficeJet 5255 is not the fastest with a speed of 10 black and white pages per minute. Printing from a USB stick is also possible on the HP. You can also use the in-house ePrint app to issue print jobs from your smartphone via WLAN – Apple AirPrint is available for this purpose for iPhones.
