The user gets a device that prints, scans, and copies. It is limited to USB as a cable connection, but at the same time also comes with WiFi – that is commendable. Over the wireless connection, it also prints using HP ePrint and Apple AirPrint. At the same time, HP also offers the All-in-one Printer Remote app, a small application that can be used to send scans to smartphones and tablet PCs. Apart from the WLAN capability, The HP Deskjet 2540 multifunction device is intended for home use, which is why a paper tray must be sufficient for a maximum of 60 sheets. The tray is even leaner with 25 sheets. After all, the device provides instructions in the driver for manual two-sided printing. The control panel on the combination printer is limited to symbols and a display of the number of copies. You can use two separate buttons to decide whether you want to copy in color or in monochrome. The printer uses cartridges that form a unit with the printhead. When you change the cartridge, you always get a new printhead. The text side in particular is comparatively expensive. For this, the HP Deskjet 2540 multifunctional device requires little power and is completely disconnected from the power supply when switched off – that is not a matter of course. The HP combination printer works with four colors. There is nothing to be said against that. Against blackout in texts and copies, yes. It is too strong, especially in normal mode. Texts can be read well with this, but the ink application is expensive. See if the draft mode is enough for you. Even in color, the device doesn’t save ink if we let it work in normal mode. The scans have a decent sharpness but are usually quite blue and red-tinted. At the same time, however, their brightness is right. Overall, The HP Deskjet 2540 is a typical representative of the entry-level class. The integrated WLAN turns out to be a feature highlight. Otherwise, the multifunction device behaves as expected: In the compact housing there are two cartridges with an integrated print head, which cause high page prices. It also takes a lot of time to print, scanning, and copying. It does not handle borderless printing, and we noticed a full ink coverage in the normal disciplines. This can get expensive if you print and copy over and over again.
