The stand of the monitor is made of metal. Accordingly, the HP OMEN 27i is very secure on the desk. Even if you hit the monitor in the heat of the moment, it won’t slip an inch. The monitor can be adjusted in height and tilted a little forwards and backward. Basically, the design of this monitor is rather simple. Almost the entire monitor is matt black and the Omen lettering on the back has a chic chrome look. So it is also ideal for the office. However, if you like it a little more unusual, you can activate the integrated lighting. The monitor offers two individually controllable lighting zones: a large one on the back and a smaller one on the front. The lighting modes can be adjusted accordingly via the OMEN Command Center. The screen bezels are pleasingly narrow. Only the lower edge is a little larger and shows a small OMEN lettering. The power button and a small joystick for later navigating through the menu are located at the bottom right on the back of the screen when viewed from the front. The position takes a bit of getting used to, as the keys are still quite far from the edge and you have to reach around the display further than you are used to from other models. The 2560 x 1440 pixels display all content razor-sharp on 27 inches. In our opinion, this combination is still the sweet spot for gamers. But the HP OMEN 27i monitor also has a few highlights to offer besides the high resolution. Thanks to the fast refresh rate of up to 165 Hertz (via overdrive), hectic game situations are clearly displayed and the short reaction time, which in practice is around 4 milliseconds, is somewhat higher than the advertised 1 ms, guarantees a streak-free gaming experience. The monitor scores with rich and realistic colors. The sRGB color space is covered almost completely and the AdobeRGB color space is almost 90 percent covered. For a gaming monitor, that’s a really good result. Slight weaknesses are revealed in the illumination of the display. With a maximum brightness of slightly more than 350 cd / m², the monitor has to admit defeat to some competitors. Contrasts are generally well represented, but the monitor does not achieve top values here either. The overall picture is rounded off by the support of AMD’s FreeSync technology and G-Sync compatibility. This synchronizes the refresh rate of the display with the image type of the graphics card, which can be helpful in the event of image cracks. All connections are on the back of the HP OMEN 27i monitor. An HDMI input (2.0), a DisplayPort (1.2), and a 3.5mm audio jack are routed to the right when viewed from the front. In addition, three USB ports are directed towards the left.

The HP OMEN 27i makes a high-quality impression. The gaps are even and the case does not creak even under pressure. When the lighting is switched off, the monitor looks simple and elegant. If desired, it can also be a colorful eye-catcher. This monitor has two major strengths to offer: the fast refresh rate and the realistic color display. On the other hand, there are small weaknesses in the contrasts and the only average illumination. The three additional USB ports are a nice extra. However, we would have liked to have another HDMI input.
