The HP Color Laser MFP 178nw is a compact color laser multifunction printer designed for small teams of up to five users. A simple 2-line LCD control panel provides access to printing, scanning, copying, wireless functions, and ID copy. This printer features a 150-sheet input tray and a 50-sheet output bin, supporting media sizes from 76 × 148.5 mm up to 216 × 356 mm and paper weights from 60 to 220 g/m². It supports plain, light, heavy, extra-heavy, colored, preprinted, recycled, label, bond, and glossy media. Duplex printing is supported manually through the printer driver, while additional printing features include N-up printing, booklet printing, poster printing, watermarks, and the ability to skip blank pages. It combines printing, copying, and scanning in one device, making it suitable for home offices and small businesses with a recommended monthly print volume of 100 to 500 pages. The printer delivers black-and-white printing at speeds of up to 18 ppm and color printing at up to 4 ppm, with print resolution reaching 600 × 600 dpi for both black and color documents. The first black page can print in as little as 12.4 seconds, while the first color page takes as little as 25.3 seconds.
The printer also provides versatile copying and scanning capabilities. Copying reaches up to 18 cpm in black and 4 cpm in color, with resolutions of up to 600 × 600 dpi and reduction or enlargement from 25% to 400%. Its flatbed CIS scanner supports documents up to 216 × 297 mm, with optical scanning resolution of up to 600 × 600 dpi and enhanced resolution up to 19,200 dpi. It can scan in color and save files in PDF, JPG, and TIFF formats, with features such as scan-to-PDF, OCR/text conversion, book scanning, poster stitching, and e-book creation. Connectivity is one of the HP Color Laser MFP 178nw’s key strengths. It includes built-in 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Fast Ethernet, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0, along with mobile printing support through Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Wi-Fi Direct, HP apps, and Google Cloud Print.
