The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M31w is advertised by HP as a particularly compact multifunction laser printer. At first glance, the printer doesn’t look like a laser multifunction printer at all. This printer is a new multifunction laser from HP designed for the home office or a very small workplace with minimal print volumes. Functionally, it is anything but remarkable. It spits out black and white a4 prints and has an a4 flatbed scanner mounted on top. This includes color printing. After all, the HP is very handy and quickly finds its place. Unfortunately, some compactness is lost when the paper is fed. To do this, you have to fold down the intake, which takes extra space. On the outside, it is otherwise quite inconspicuous. The outside is in simple gray-white plastic with slightly rounded corners and edges. The overall build quality is stable. It is easy to open and maintain and it has a small control panel at the top with an LCD screen that is basically only used to set the black, number, or size of copies. Due to the low paper supply, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M31w printer is less suitable for large offices, but all the more suitable for households in which a document needs to be printed wirelessly every now and then. In addition, functions such as duplex printing and duplex scanning are missing. The scanning itself is only possible from the PC and then ideally with the HP Smart app. This means that even color photos are reproduced in good quality; only dark areas tend to be uniform black instead of fine gradations. After all, you can copy directly on the device, where you can also set the number of copies. But there is not much more you can do with the very small LC display. The single-sheet feeder only accepts media up to 120 g / m², so photo paper should not be used. Admittedly, that makes less sense with a black-and-white printer. Only one quality level is offered for printing, which is completely okay, as texts are displayed very neatly here. After all, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M31w has a USB A and WLAN connection, even with WiFi Direct, if you want to print from your mobile phone. The printer variant also comes with an integrated WLAN module that supports the b / g / n standards. In addition to connecting to the local network with wifi, wifi direct is supported, so you can print directly from a tablet or mobile with Android’s own printing routines or with an HP app for Android and iOS. There is no fixed network port, so if you do not want to run wirelessly, it is USB that applies. Connected to a network with the Internet, either via wifi or distributed from a computer with a USB, it also supports Apple Airprint and Google Cloud Print. HP LaserJet Pro MFP M31w’s Installation can be as simple as plugging in the USB cable. it was identified immediately and basic drivers were downloaded in a few seconds. For more features, you can download HP’s installer, which identifies the printer and provides three different software package options to install; basic drivers which is the printer driver we already have as well as one for the scanner, HP Smart which are the drivers plus an app to keep track of printer status and get help with certain types of printing.
