The HP Tango X is a single-function printer with scanning and copying via the app HP Smart. Thus, the usual glass surface is missing for placing templates. For high-quality scans, the Tango is therefore not good. At the same time, you do not have to do without scanning and copying altogether. White housing, flat design, focus on LEDs instead of buttons. The fabric cover of HP Tango X is expensive, but also noble and dresses the printer when not in use so that it is no longer recognizable as an IT device. The app is extensive and remains clear. However, it was not fully developed at the time of the test: During the test, the smartphone and printer lost the connection again and again without the app notifying them. The result: you notice that something is wrong because the “Print” field is suddenly not active. Then usually only helps restart the app. At the same time, you’ll get alerts when ink or paper runs out. When it comes to ink consumption, the HP Tango X is expensive, even if you use XL cartridges. If you want to print photos, you should look at the instant ink offer from the manufacturer, which should leave out the ink for photos. However, the device is still not suitable for advanced printers. This can be stored in too little paper. Also, the pressure unit will quickly reach its limits at a higher load. The output quality is correct, however. As a result, HP’s Tango X manual may help familiarize hardcore smartphone users with printing. But that alone does not make the HP Tango series a smart home printer. Rather, it should be addressed by voice assistants Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. A prerequisite for the commissioning of the HP Tango X is the app “HP Smart”, which is for Android, iOS, and Windows 10 for free in the app stores. Use the app to make the first connection via Bluetooth. This requires the wireless connection to be activated on your smartphone. If the printer and the mobile device are detecting each other, you will see the available WLAN networks on the smartphone display, from which you can select the desired wireless network and enter your access data. The individual steps for installing Tango X in the WLAN are tracked on the display of the mobile device.
