It good surprises that this printer signed HP. Beyond modest build and basic functionality, this 3-in-1 printer does most of the basics and does it fairly well. A 43.8 x 31 x 15.8 cm white plastic block, the HP Deskjet 3631 may be an entry-level product, but it’s a pretty well-finished printer overall. It actually enjoys a nice design, which does not, however, forget a summary ergonomics. There is only one paper input tray on the rear, which accepts only a limited amount of 60 plain sheets. According to our test protocol, the printer is faster than that, reaching 12.8 and 9 ppm respectively. When scanning, the HP Deskjet 3631 is quite fast. It takes 11 seconds to scan a 10 x 15 cm photo at 300 dpi, and 7 seconds to scan an A4 document at 100 dpi. This speed benefits the copy function, knowing that the printer takes 14 s to copy a black and white page, and 25 s to copy a color page. As always a little degraded, the quality of the copies remains very correct. Already, and this is not trivial on a low-cost product, it is delivered with a USB Type-B cable in addition to the power cord: this is quite surprising in itself because it is the kind of small economies on which manufacturers do not generally ignore. Pleasant to handle on a daily basis despite a small control panel, it provides an honest rendering in the office and quite convincing in photos. Admittedly, its cost per page is one of its main weak points, but those who find an interest in the Instant Ink program will be able to greatly reduce the cost price of this model over time.
